Tools & Technology
Many folks (myself included) invest in a tool that allows you to monitor your puppy remotely, if you don’t already have one, but don’t worry! You don’t need to be an I.T. professional to figure out what is on the market these days, or how to use your current tools. There are so many cameras and hacks that you can choose the one that suits you!
Your own computer
If your computer is webcam-enabled, you’re all set! Programs like Zoom are free and allow you to monitor your dog from your smartphone without all the bells and whistles.
An old smartphone / tablet
If you have an old smartphone or tablet, those can be connected to wi-fi and set up to monitor using free (or low cost) apps like Presence , Manything , Smartfrog , iCam , to name a few. Some are free and some have paid versions.
A stand-alone camera
My personal favourite is Nest Cam as I find it to be the most reliable and inexpensive, but also plug-and-play (very easy to set up). The runner up is definitely the Furbo – a camera AND treat-dispenser!
Struggling with tech?
Go easy if you can so that you don’t have “one more obstacle” on your path to success. Otherwise, hire the local techy-person or speak to your local BestBuy about their services to help people set up their tech equipment.
