Step 3: Clean up the hand signal

With your dog in a seated or down position, briefly place your empty hand (palm facing your dog’s nose) half a foot away from their nose. Sweep your hand away from their nose, moving in a straight line (and slightly higher if they started in a down). Once your hand is 1 foot away from your dog’s nose, wait patiently for them to rise up.

As soon as your dog is standing, say “yes!” (or click) and feed a treat from your pouch while they are still in the standing position.

If your dog stands up after the mark and before you have a chance to feed the treat, simply lure them back into the standing position to release the food.

You can cue and reward a sit or down to reset.

Repeat 4 more times for a total of 5 repetitions.
