Step 5: Enjoy your time together

When your visitor is over, you’ll still have to manage your dog. One of my favourite choices is to give my dog a long-lasting chew (frozen stuffed Kong) on their mat while I’m visiting with my friends/family. This prevents them from being too “in your face” with them and allows me to relax.

If you find that your dog is a bit of a trouble-maker when visitors are over and you need more practice and more time, use a confinement option (exercise pen, baby gate, crate, tether) to prevent them from practising the behaviours you do not want them mastering – jumping, licking faces, knocking over tea, investigating purses, stealing shoes, nibbling on children, etc.
